So I have this part-time gig, thanks to the mercy of a friend (thanks BB!).  As I was working away on that project in BB’s office, nose at the grindstone (initially I wrong “groundstone”; clearly I don’t know nuthin’ ’bout hard work), I decided to check my gmail account.  Because, hey, you need to pace yourself.

Anyway, so I went to gmail and the cursor rolled across my contact list.  That’s when I saw it.  Burrito, the Burro, listed as the photo of one of my friends.

Pause here for a second.  Back at the firm, we did many wacky things to entertain ourselves.  Especially when working late.  ESPECIALLY when doing hours and hours of document review.

One of the things we would do to entertain each other and our colleagues was to use the PDF function on the copiers to send bizarre photos and notes to unsuspecting colleagues.

Let me explain.

As is par for the course now, but which was mind-blowing technology for me at the time, is the ability to make a PDF of a copy at the copier and then email said copy to someone within the firm.  Brilliant, right?  Well, it was – and is.  Anyway, so you would get a photo or write a note (I always preferred a handwritten note to a typed one because of the sheer absurdity), go to the copier, pick an unsuspecting colleague, and email a PDF.  Hilarity would inevitably ensue.  Accusations would fly.  Lies would be told.  Fingers would be pointed.  And so on and so forth.

Yes, my life at the firm was this sad.

Anyway, a mainstay in this little PDF email game was sending each other this image, which we (I?) loving named Burrito, the Burro.

Burrito, the Burro

Burrito, the Burro

Sometimes I’d send this to the Republican on our document review team – 1) because the donkey is the symbol of the Democratic party, and 2) because he would say “burrrrrrrrrro” all the time and for no reason.  The Republican always thought Burrito was funny.  Some others did not.  JC, DK, and SW NEVER liked receiving PDF emails.  I’m not sure why.  Maybe because they took their jobs seriously and the Republican I and most assuredly did not.

Anyway,  so that the image was always within reach and because it never fails to make me smile, I kept a copy of Burrito, the Burro, tacked above my desk at the firm.

So you see, I love this image.  And other than my firm friends, no one has ever sent this photo to me, brought it to my attention, mentioned it, or has even seen it before.

Until now.

So back to the story.

My cursor rolls over my gmail contact list and there it is.  Burrito, the Burro.  As someone’s gmail photo.  I gasped.  I lunged for my mouse and scrolled through the list to see who it was.  And there it was.  MJ.  She was the one with the photo.   Of course, her pic looked like this:

But still.  Shocking.  Amazing.  Fantastic.  Hilarious.

Okay, so I have no idea what an “ass hat” is or what this means.  But this incident made me think that MJ and I may have been destined to be friends.  Because finding Burrito, the Burro, on the internets and finding it as hilarious as I do… well, that’s unbelievable.  And now I know it was meant to be.  MJ and me, that is.  Now, if only we can do something about her affinity for those damn Red Sox…
